National ARFF / AOS Operational Readiness Survey Launch

Advocates for Safer Airports in Canada (ASA Canada) is launching a national survey of Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) personnel and Airport Operations Specialists (AOS) across Canada.

For years, decisions affecting airport emergency preparedness have been made using assumptions, models, and studies. We believe it is time to hear directly from the people who respond when things go wrong.

This survey is designed to capture the operational realities at Canadian airports, including:

  • ARFF staffing levels
  • Airport Operations Specialist (AOS) roles and responsibilities
  • Response posture and readiness
  • Incident Command practices
  • Training and qualifications
  • Municipal mutual aid arrangements
  • Airport Emergency Planning
  • Risks and challenges identified by frontline personnel

Our goal is simple: to obtain at least one response from every ARFF airport in Canada and build the first national picture of frontline emergency response capability from the perspective of those doing the work.

To help maintain the integrity of the data, survey links will be distributed directly by ASA Canada. If you are currently working in ARFF or as an Airport Operations Specialist—or have recent operational experience—please send an email to: advocates4saferairports@gmail.com

Please include:

  • Airport name and code
  • Province
  • ARFF or AOS position

Responses may be submitted anonymously. Individual participants will not be identified in any report or publication. The information collected will be used to identify national trends, inform future advocacy efforts, and support evidence-based discussions regarding airport emergency preparedness and public safety.

Every airport has a story. Every responder has a perspective. We want to hear yours.
